Ubel's post about the Subaru 16-second-drag-wonder made me think. What would you consider a fast quarter mile for a car from the factory these days? I think my car is capable of 14.2 stock. I'd like to think this starts to get into the realm of a reasonably fast quarter mile time. With more performance geared cars getting into the 12's, such as the new Corvette and the Mustang GT.

It's interesting how much of a difference a few seconds make in what I would consider a slow (16), a fast (14) and a very fast (12) quarter mile. But once you consider how much it takes to get that extra .1 second at those faster times, it comes back into perspective. The law of diminishing returns is very big here. I can spend $1100 to get into the mid-high-12's, but I'd probably spend another $2000 (at least), to get into the the low-12's, high-11's.

My car stock did 13.6ish or so

With a tune I was doing low 13s like 13.3 when I could hook

Now with a new engine, tune and catless DP I can do 12.6

My car is kinda fast.

If the track tell you that you need a helmet to make another pass, your car is quick. If the track tells you you need a full cage to make another run, your car is fast.

Lucky for me my Jeep comes with a full roll cage and the government requires me to always wear a helmet and swimmies (you never know)...

When I was a younger, a friend of mine had a 9.90 index Super Gas car. I took a few rides (as a passenger-not the driver) in it on test and tune nights at York US 30 (I'm really dating myself here)....anyways, doing the 1/4 mile in less then 10 seconds (his car would easily run low nines) is a complete headrush.

It's depends on your relative perspective.

My threshold for "fast" nowadays is 13.5 or lower in the 1/4. There's plenty of V6 family sedans and entry level luxury cars that'll run 14s all day so fast needs to be faster than that.

Low 14's is relatively quick. When I was younger me and a buddy went to the strip one weekend. I was turning 14.5's. He had a Z28 that turned 14.2's.

Today 13 flat is really hauling the mail for a street car.

12's is beyond what I would give to a novice.

Haha, so should I be scared? I think the first time I'll go to the track will be when my car is capable of 12's.

I've done a 13.5 in a dead stock Ralliart. Proper tuning, the right parts, and I heard the ralliart can go to the mid 12s.

I still think that's slow. I think my Ralliart is slow. 240hp is not enough.
